Contract negotiations Alderweireld and Tottenham end?
The negotiations between Tottenham Hotspur and defender Toby Alderweireld are now deadlocked.
Discussion of the contract extension of the 28-year-old is said to be far from over.
Communication between the two camps is still ongoing and there is still a distance between the desire of the player and the club offer.
However, it remains unclear when the negotiations continue.
Alderweireld’s delayed contract once again raises doubts about his foot of the Spurs salary structure.
The Belgian has been a key player for Mauricio Pocchetino since it was bought from Atletico Madrid in 2014 and is a top-notch defender in Europe.
The current contract is worth 50 thousand pounds per week, relatively low for players of his caliber.
Alderwireld’s agent requested a salary equivalent with the highest-paid player in the club, Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris who earned 110 thousand pounds a week.
But maybe even a salary of that size can be less satisfactory ex Atletico Madrid, who can earn a larger salary at another club.
He still has a two-year contract, with a 12-month extension option.
